About Farrukh IslamLib Dem Greater London Assembly Candidate for Havering and Redbridge
Havering and Redbridge Liberal Democrats have selected local Councillor Farrukh Islam as their candidate for Havering and Redbridge London Assembly constituency. Councillor Islam's priorities are improvement in local transport, visible policing, affordable housing, protecting green spaces and local services such as hospitals and post offices. He was elected as a Councillor for Roding Ward in the London Borough of Redbridge in May 2006. He is spokesperson for Redbridge Liberal Democrats on Leisure, Culture and the Olympics. Councillor Islam attained his first degree in Physics followed by a Masters degree in Mathematics. He became a Teacher and Head of Physics in an independent secondary school in Oxford and after 3 years of teaching moved into the accountancy profession. He trained with Touché Ross and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. After spending 7 years with Touché Ross as senior auditor in the City, he joined Commerce and Industry where he served as Senior Finance Executive for 13 years in multinational organisations. He started his own practice in Redbridge as a Chartered Accountant and Registered Auditor serving more than two hundred small business. He has been serving as a governor of Ilford County High School, a selective Grammar School in Redbridge for the last 9 years.
